Jack Reynolds Travis, 82, of Corning, NY, passed away on October 19, 2023, in Lancaster, OH. He was born on July 6, 1941, in Corning, NY. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by his devoted spouse of nearly 61 years, Mary Travis, his son Michael (Wendy) Travis, his granddaughters Hannah Travis and Hailey Hilliard, his grandson Aiden Travis, his extended “family” Bill, Holli, Sarah (& Daphne), Megan, and Kate Krauss, Mike, Becky, and Connor McCandlish and Will and Valerie Evans.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Travis, his mother, Reitha Travis-Fenton, his brother, Claude “Buck” Travis, his brother, Henry Travis, and his infant daughter Travis.

Jack attended Corning Free Academy in Corning, New York, for his high school education. He furthered his education at Corning Community College, and he proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Throughout his career, Jack excelled in a variety of roles. He worked as a delivery driver at Arnold Furniture, a draftsman at Corning Glass Works, a packaging engineer at Corning Fiber Box, Anchor Hocking, Sonoco, and International Paper, and a packaging design manager at Oneida Container. He designed palletization software as sole proprietor of Palmax, and he was the proud holder of three U.S. Patents.

In his free time, Jack was a voracious reader of science fiction and a lifelong lover of learning. He enjoyed motorcycles and go carts, and he served as a pit crew member for many races at Watkins Glen. For many years, he was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, winning Solo II events and regional championships. He also participated in TSD (time-speed-distance) road rallies and gymkhana events. Jack was an early adopter of the personal computer and a skilled ham radio operator, holding an extra class license and certification as Amateur Radio Test Administration. Jack generously shared his knowledge of mathematics as a tutor for college students, and he served as a youth league baseball coach and board member. He was a short-wave radio enthusiast and considered himself a tech “nerd”. Jack enjoyed and was actively involved in the Sherman Bluff condo association.

Most anyone who met Jack would say he had a gruff exterior, yet many who got to know him discovered he could be very generous with his time, talents and treasure. He was a bit of a teddy bear trapped in the body and mind of a grumpy old man.

Allen P. Sellers, age 81 of Lancaster died June 19, 2022 at Country Lane Gardens. He was born on March 17, 1941 to the late Paul and Sarah Sellers. He was an electrician for Anchor Hocking, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and several other companies. Allen served in the Ohio Air National Guard and was called to serve his country in the Air Force in Korea. Allen was a Ham Radio Operator who greatly enjoyed participating in the K8QIK Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club. He was very active with his sons in the B.S.A. He eagerly attended Ham Fest each year, and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Allen‘s amazing personality and love for life will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Sellers; sons, Chris (Kim) Sellers and Dr.Bradley Sellers; siblings, Gene Sellers and Ronald (Jane) Sellers; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Frank Cahill, age 64, of Circleville was welcomed into heaven on January 19, 2022. Mike was born on January 15, 1958 in Circleville, the son of the late Frank and Irene Toole Cahill. Mike grew up near Tarlton, OH, attended Pickaway Elementary school and was a 1976 graduate of Logan Elm High School and Pickaway Ross Vocational Technical Center. At Pickaway Ross Mike received the Award of Distinction in the Electricity Program. He was a VICA Parliamentarian during his senior year. He also attended Franklin University and DeVry University. He served 3 years in the United States Air Force. For many years Mike was a self employed Contractor, building homes in the area. He then worked for 23 years and retired from the General Electric Lamp Plant in Circleville.

Mike was a member of Community United Methodist Church where he was active in the Dimensions for Living Sunday School class and the Saturday morning Men‘s group. He had also served as church trustee. Mike was an active Amateur Radio Operator, WN8C. He was a member of the Lancaster Amateur Radio club, ARRL, and OMISS. Mike enjoyed many hobbies including wood working, Fly Fishing, travel, and RV camping. He had a lifelong love of learning. If Mike needed to complete a task that he didn‘t know how to do, he researched the topic until he was proficient. Mike was always open to experience new adventures and always ready to extend a helping hand.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Elizabeth and his sister Kimberly Harter. He is survived by his wife, Paula; children Melissa (Eris Cantada) Sedlmayr, Belinda (Mandar) Kathe, Christopher, Emily (Patrick Lyons) Cahill, Katie (Steffan) Buss, a step-son Wesley (Janice) Goddard, son-in-law Jay (Laurie) Strope and ten grandchildren Natalie Boltenhouse; Eric, Tommy, Michael and Jude Buss, William Cantada, Jason and Reagan Strope, and Cole and Emily Goddard.

A celebration of Mike‘s life will be held at Community United Methodist Church on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Edward L. Campbell, WD8PGO, 79, of Lancaster, passed away at his residence on July 17, 2017. He was born in Lancaster on January 28, 1938 to Lloyd "Slim" and Martha Campbell.

Edward lived an amazing life in service to his community and others which includes 50 years service in the American Red Cross, over 50 years at the Fairfield County Fair, 50 years at the Civil Air Patrol where he was Lieutenant Colonel, and the Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club for 41 years. He was also a member of the American Legion-Post 11, served on the Fourth of July Committee, was a founding board member of the Ohio Glass Museum, helped at the Sweet Corn Festival, was a Fairfield County poll worker and community watch member, served on the Lancaster Festival Committee, was an amateur radio emergency services coordinator for Fairfield County, and finally worked with the Fairfield County EMA where he helped with tornado sirens.

In addition to his volunteerism, Edward was a Lancaster policeman, worked for Campbell Electric with his father, and retired from Anchor Hocking after working as an electrician for 30 years. Edward also enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona, but above all was a loving father and husband.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn; sons, Edward II, Mark, and Richard Campbell; daughter, Melanie (Bill) Tichenor; grandsons, Charles Carothers, Josh (Mollie) Bristol, and Christopher, Aaron (Kim), Edward III, and Mark Campbell; granddaughters, Tara (Mike) Manning, Meghan (Mike) Elliott, and Amanda (Shawn) Neighborgal; 9 great grandchildren; and siblings, Gayle McKenzie, Jean (Jerry) Smutylo, Jodi (Howard) Miller, and Gary (Cathy), Jack, Steve (Jane), Jim (Kelly), and Martin (Tammy) Campbell; and sister-in-law, Sherry Miller.

William J. "Bill" Newill (1922 – 2017), 94, passed away, Monday, May 1, 2017 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Bill was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to Edward B. and Zilpha B. Newill. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton OH and met his wife, Margaret (Alkins) through the young adults ministry group. They were married Sept. 7, 1949.

Bill had moved to Oakwood, OH early in his life, attending Oakwood schools. He had a strong attachment to Boy Scouts and attended the 1937 World Jamboree in Europe, just prior to WWII breaking out. Throughout his life, he was an active golfer, sailor, tennis player, and swimmer sharing and teaching those skills with his children and grandchildren.

He attended Purdue University, Lafayette IN, graduating in 1943 as an Electrical Engineer, then served in the US Navy both as an aviation radio repairman (Electrician's Mate / Petty Officer First Class) and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict to serve as an instructor in advanced radio repair.

Bill's career was spent with General Motors – Delco Products of Dayton, OH as an advanced electric motors design engineer. He received six patents for his inventions. Most notably, he was one of the pioneers of electric cars, to include the three Lunar Rover Vehicles driven by astronauts on the moon.

Bill's faith life was centered in his involvement at Fairmont Presbyterian Church where he served as a Trustee, on numerous ministry teams, and led their 2nd Century Fundraising campaign for capital improvements.

He was a Professional grade member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the American Radio Relay League – Extra Class license. As a Ham Radio operator (W8LIL) he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Active in the Dayton and Centerville OH communities, he was President of the Engineers Club of Dayton – leading its 50th anniversary events – Montgomery County Grange, and Centerville Lions Club where he was President and frequent leader of their famous Ox Roast. Locally, Bill was known as a man that could fix nearly anything electrical or mechanical!

His greatest achievements were as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He inspired two generations of the family to go on to greater achievements in life.

Survivors include his children: David (Sharon) Newill, Edward (Kate Uranek) Newill and Barbara (The Rev. Dr. Emil) Klatt; and his grandchildren: Mark, Elizabeth, Matthew, Megan, Emily, Marcella, Elizabeth and Margaret; 11 great grandchildren; his brother Robert B. Newill and and cousin, Thomas H. (Colleen) Reynolds and numerous nieces and nephews.

BALTIMORE: On Monday, October 17, 2016, Robert Charles "Bob" Van Dyke, lost his brief battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio.

Bob was born on November 29, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio to Eva (Camp) Miller and Robert Cecil Van Dyke. He was a 1969 graduate of Lancaster High School. In 2008, after 37 years of service, Bob retired from Diamond Power in Lancaster, Ohio as his main occupation in life. He developed an interest in law enforcement and also held part-time positions with Baltimore Police Department, the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department, and Fairfield County Municipal Court. Bob held memberships in the Baltimore Lodge #475, F. & A.M.; Parthenia Chapter #124, O.E.S.; Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, Fraternal Order of Police Association, and the Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club - call sign "W8RVD".

On May 8, 1993, Bob married "his sweetie", best friend and soulmate, Brenda J. Gaffney, daughter of James E. and Juanita R. (Gillespie) Gaffney. Thus began the journey of 23 years of wedded bliss, trials, and tribulations - no marriage is ever perfect. Bob and Brenda lived in Lancaster for the first year of their marriage and moved to Baltimore in 1994, where they have remained since.

Bob was preceded in death by an infant sister, Rose Marie Van Dyke in 1949; step-father, Henry L. Miller, in 1986; father, Robert Cecil Van Dyke in 1987; mother, Eva F. Miller, in 2003; mother-in-law, Juanita R. Gaffney in 2007; brother, Thomas E. Van Dyke, in 2011; and father- in-law, James E. Gaffney in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his precious furbabies - Buster, Renee, PeeWee, Taffy Ann, Penny, PJ, and Punky.

Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda; his furbabies Pebbles, Bam Bam, Boo Boo, and Bella; a brother, Ronald L. (Dinah) Van Dyke of Lancaster; brothers-in-law Michael (Sharon) Gaffney of Lecanto, FL and James E. (Kim) Gaffney of Baltimore; nieces, April (Jason) Romine, Jodi Van Dyke, Jenni (Ryan) Fausnaugh, all of Lancaster, Jessica Van Dyke of Pleasantville, and Desirea Gaffney of Baltimore; nephews, Joshua (Serena) Van Dyke of Lancaster and Zachary Gaffney of Baltimore; a special great-niece, Layla Gaffney of Thornville with whom he spent many days accompanying her to what he termed "flip-flop" practice (competitive cheer); and very special friends Janet Schmeltzer and Paul and Connie Karl.

Viewing will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. and funeral service on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home in Baltimore, Ohio. Rev. Jill Dunlap will officiate - Bob gave her "first dibs" on his funeral. He will be buried beside of his in- laws in Maple Grove Cemetery in Baltimore.

Bob endured much over the last two months in pursuit of a diagnosis. Brenda would like to thank, and Bob would too, Dr. Joseph Ginty and Melissa Cooper, Dr. David Robertson, and Dr. Kanwaljit Singh for their patience, guidance, and support. LANCASTER: Neal W. Burdette, Jr. 90 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Fairfield Medical Center. He was born on July 21, 1925 in Newark, Ohio to the late Neal W. and Mary L. Noel Burdette, Jr.

He was a World War II US Army Air Corp. veteran receiving a Purple Heart and a retired school teacher.

Neal was a graduate of Lancaster High School Class of 1943, Ohio State graduate Class of 1951 and taught at Amanda Clearcreek High School, Millersport High School and Boys Industrial School.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Association, 40 et 8, American Legion Post 11, and VFW Post 1516. He was also a member of the Lancaster-Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club (W8BUR).

Neal is survived by his nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Jan Andrews of IN. He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Jean Camp Burdette, parents, and sister, Natalie Hoffman.

BALTIMORE: On Thursday May 12th 2016, Marcel "Mark" Borys, age 78, joined our Lord after a long valiant fight with illness at The James Cancer Center.

Mark was an active member at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Buckeye Lake. He enjoyed services with his wife every week. He also was a member of the VFW in Baltimore. He enjoyed breakfast with his friends and fish fry on Fridays. Mark also was a member of The Knights of Columbus for many years. Mark was able to light up a room just by walking in. He will be remembered for his stories and his tremendous generosity.

Mark is survived by his wife, Judy Borys (Klauk), his two sisters Mary Bartzak and Sally Zdrojeski, his two children Mark Paul Borys (Monica) and Julie Wilson (Michael), his four granddaughters Brooke Cable (Clayton), Hannah Lane, Olivia Borys, & Sylvia Borys. He also left many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is proceeded in death by his brother, Ray Borys.

LANCASTER: Richard Allan Schleiffer, age 90, passed away peacefully in Knoxville, TN on May 5, 2014 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

"Dick" was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 27, 1923, the only child of Lloyd L. and Elizabeth B. (Winnen) Schleiffer.

He is survived by two sons, Scott Christopher and Candy (Nenn) of Algonquin (IL), and Keith Emory and Debbie (Erdevig) Schleiffer of Knoxville (TN); five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Dick graduated from Thornton Township High School, Harvey, Illinois in 1942 and married Wilma Jean Smith in October. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a signalman with the First Naval Beach Battalion in Anzio, Salerno, and Sicily, Italy, fierce battles in WWII. Later divorced, he graduated from the American Television Institute of Technology in 1948 and began working for NBC Chicago live television.

On January 1, 1954, Dick married Ethel Gertrude Warnken, loving wife of 42 years and raised two sons. Dick worked 29 years for Motorola Inc. as a technician installer serving in Chicago, Seattle, and abroad in Turkey. He was a 33rd Degree mason and Knights Templar member of the Masonic Lodge, Lancaster, Ohio; 50 year member of The Quarter Century Wireless Association; life member of the American Radio Relay League; member of First United Methodist Churches in Carpentersville (IL), Bellevue (WA) and Lancaster (OH). In 1998 he married Lois A. Sweeney Ramsey Hamman of Lancaster, Ohio.

He will be remembered for his puns and easy-going nature. Dick enjoyed golfing, reading, ham radio and coffee. Dick will be laid to rest in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland next to his beloved wife Ethel and her parents.

Saas Frederick L. Saas, age 65, of Pickerington OH, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his residence. Born January 31, 1950 in Columbus, he was a 1968 graduate of Bexley High School, and he attended DeVry Institute and The Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam era. Fred was a computer specialist with Hewlett Packard for 37 years. He was an avid amateur radio operator, and had been a member of The Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club,  CRES Amateur Radio Club, Central Ohio Operators Klub Extra-Novice (COOKEN), and QRP Amateur Radio Club International. Fred was also a past scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 256 in Pickerington.

Carl Edison Carder, 89, went to be with the Lord at 4:00 PM on January 19, 2014. He was born on March 12, 1924 in Kanawha Station, West Virginia, the son of Edison and Izola (Locker) Carder.

Carl graduated from South Zanesville High School in 1942. He was married to Floreine Jenkins on February 5, 1944 and they were married for 52 years before her passing in 1996.

Carl retired from Brockway Glass/Owens Illinois in 1983 after 30 years of service and he has been blessed with 30 years of retirement life, which included motor home traveling with his wife, fishing with family and friends, enjoyment of baseball and the Cincinnati Reds, and since 1963, he has shared the love of his Amateur Radio hobby with thousands of "hams" in over 200 countries around the world. He also took great pride in participating in emergency communication drills by offering assistance through Amateur Radio.

He was a member of the Zanesville Amateur Radio Club and a lifetime member of The Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club. He held amateur radio call sign WA8HFS with an amateur extra class license. Carl was a member of the American Radio Relay League and a charter member of 10-X International Net. He was a member of the South Zanesville United Methodist Church, and Carl supported the Red Cross, becoming a lifetime 50-pint donor.

Raymond F. "Speed" Shetrone of Ft Myers, Florida, formerly of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away on August 1, 2012. He was born June 11, 1923 to Russell and Forona Shetrone. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Robert.

He was co-owner of Shetrone and Son General Store with his father until 1957 when his father retired. Raymond ran the business until he retired in 1979. He was a member of The Trinity United Church of Christ in Baltimore where he served on the Consistory several times. He was a member of the Baltimore Area Development Corporation, Carroll Lions Club, the American Radio Relay League, Basil Fire Department and was instrumental in the Baltimore Pool Fund Raising Project. He was a licensed amateur radio operator (WA8WFL), loved camping and was a "real people person". He was also a past member of the Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club.

In 1944 he married Gladys M. Neel. He is survived by the "love of his life", Gladys, married for 68 years and rarely apart; also survived by son, Frank (Susie) Shetrone of Ft Myers; grandson,

Bob (Amy) Shetrone of Lancaster, grandaughter, Jenny (Kevin) Kosch of Baltimore, step grandchildren, Melisa (Steve) Daugherty of Bremen, and Sean (Leah) Smith of Houston, Tx; great grand-children, Taylor and Sam Shetrone, Alexis, Denver, and Hunter Hosch, Connor and Issac Daugherty, Willem, Mazie, Emma, and John Riley Smith; a sister, Margery Goodyear of Clayton, Ca.; and sisters-in law, Marge Price, Logan and Helen Neel, Lancaster.

David R. Younker, 73, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 at The Pickering House.

He was born on June 11, 1937 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Frank and Margaret (Gorski) Younker. David was a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force.

He was a licensed amateur radio operator with call-sign K8KEG. David is survived by his wife, Elaine Younker; children, Patricia Theo, Debbie Ziadeh, Mike Younker, Patsy Siler, Mary Skidmore-Morris; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Frank Younker.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Jay Skidmore.

Edward M. "Bang" Bennett, Jr., age 61, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011, at Fairfield Medical Center.

He was born July 4, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Edward M. Bennett and Juanita E. Higgins. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. He retired with 32 years of service with Ameritech / SBC Telephone Co. Ed was a member of the New Zion United Methodist Church in Baltimore. 

Everyone who knew Ed thought he was a most kind and pleasant man. When he was able he would lend a hand to anyone at any time. He loved walking his 4 legged buddy "Timmy" around the campground. Being a member of the Lancaster & Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club, his call sign was "KD8EEJ". He enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfast with his fellow telephone retirees.

Ed was completely dedicated to his family and friends and will be lovingly remembered by many who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Ed's family includes his beloved wife of 41 years, Davia Kay (Holderman) Bennett; son, SFC U.S. Army, Edward M. (Shantel) Bennett III/KJ4IEU; grandson, Eddie IV; brothers, Paul Bennett and Bruce Bennett; sisters, Pam (Orville) Trailer and Mary Topping; many nephews and nieces; his 4 legged buddies, Timmy, Sophia, and Seppe; and many Lancaster Campground Friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved pets, Bear, Cosmo, and Luigi.

Ivor G. Rutan “Hollywood”, 78, of Lancaster, formerly of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.

Ivor was an amateur radio enthusiast and member of The Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club. He was also an avid fisherman. He retired from North American Rockwell after 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ivor is survived by his wife, Mary Rutan; children, Vickie (Ronald) Copley of Thornville, Ricky Rutan of California, Marla Longworth of Columbus, Brian Rutan of Columbus, Steve (Trisha) Winner of Centerburg, Douglas (Charlotte) Winner of Lancaster, and Leigh Winner of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Simms of Florida; and brothers, Eugene Rutan of Obetz and Bradley Rutan of Columbus.

Ivor was preceded in death by his parents, Lesley and Inez Rutan; and brothers, Raymond and Gerald Rutan.

"I complained sometimes about the hassle, but he always enjoyed it," Martha O'Hare said Monday. "He liked everything about being the mayor - the challenge, the activity."

Charles O'Hare, 73, died Sunday at The Ohio State Medical Center after battling a number of health issues since November. O'Hare served as mayor of Carroll for 25 years.

"It was a vicious cycle," Martha O'Hare said of illnesses that landed her husband in hospitals for seven weeks. "Every time he moved ahead, something else would come up. It just wore him out."

Larry Craig, president of Carroll's village council, will serve as acting mayor for O'Hare's two remaining years. Craig and O'Hare were friends for more than 20 years. The two worked together as emergency medical technicians at the Greenfield Township Fire Department decades ago.

"He gave his heart and soul to the village of Carroll when it came to making things as good as he could," Craig said. "He worked diligently at getting grants for the village and keeping it moving along in the right direction." In addition to serving as mayor for a quarter century, O'Hare was the father of three children and had five grandchildren.

"He was a good husband, a good father and a good grandfather," Martha said. "He especially liked the grandkids. He had a soft touch with them. They could get pretty much what they wanted from him." Services were at Shalom United Methodist Church in Carroll. "A lot of people liked him, and an equal amount probably didn't like him," Martha O'Hare said. "He was very passionate abut his job and his community. He did what he thought was right for the village. He had a lot of energy for projects that helped the village. He did everything 100 percent."

Mr. Harrison was a 1940 graduate of Utica High School. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended the Radio Engineering School, Valparaiso, Ind., to acquire his commercial radio license so he could work at radio stations. After graduation, he went to work at WCLT radio in Newark from 1948 to 1956. After eight years at WCLT, Dick went to work in 1956 at ODOT and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, past master of the Utica Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was an avid golfer and a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary L. (Goode) Harrison, whom he married June 19, 1949; daughter, Debbie (Tim) Moore, of Lewis Center; son, Jim (Cheryl) Harrison, of Midland, Mich.; brother, Thomas Harrison, of Chicago; two grandsons, Luke and Kirk Harrison, both of Midland, Mich.; sister-in-law, Frances Harrison, of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and William Harrison.

Donard "Tuffy" Clum, 76, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was a lifelong resident of Baltimore, Ohio, and son of the late Clifton and Margaret Clum. He was a retired supervisor for Continental Midland, formerly Midland Screw Inc., with 43 years of service. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Baltimore Masonic Lodge 475, Buckeye Lake Eagles 2801, VFW Post 3761, Tarhe Shrine Club of Aladdin Temple, Lancaster Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club, American Legion Post 11 and Fairfield Fish and Game Association.

Richard Arden Lytle, age 90 of Columbus, passed away November 4, 2007 at Lutheran Village Care Center. He was a graduate of Bexley High School, Class of 1935 and a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran, where Richard served as a Sergeant in the Signal Corps.

He was a Member of Gender Road Christian Church, formerly Southeast Christian Church. He managed Universal Service from 1950-1969 then worked in sales at SREPCO until retiring in 1983.

Richard’s favorite hobby was his love of Amateur Radio and his call letters were W8THU.

Juanita R Gaffney died at 1:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at Fairfield Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 16, 1937 in Straitsville Ohio, where she lived with her beloved grandmother, Della Hoy, for many years before moving to Lancaster. She was a 1955 graduate of Liberty Union High School. She retired from the village of Baltimore in 1999.

She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 3761, Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club, Olivedale Senior Center and Charlie’s Chippers Carving Club, and attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Baltimore.

Paul Warren Daley, 64, died peacefully in his wife, Linda's arms on Monday July 9, 2007. He will be greatly missed. Paul was born in Bayshore, NY and is survived by his devoted wife, Linda (Stolarski).

Paul was a minister's son who grew up in a parsonage with no locks or doorbells. Throughout his life he maintained an unfailing sense of propriety and a set of manners that could rival the best etiquette masters. He retired from AEP as the director of Regulatory Affairs out of the Lancaster, OH office where he was an expert witness in coal regulation hearings.

Paul had many loves including amateur (ham) radio, golf, volunteering, traveling with Linda.  Paul attained prestigious awards as a ham, traveling all around the world on "DX-peditions", including Taiwan, the Cook Islands and Easter Island, camping out in primitive conditions to broadcast over the radio.

Donald Gene Jeffries, 67 of Logan, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born April 25, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of the late Lillian Schultz Ludwig.

Mr. Jeffries had worked as a boiler operator for the former Goodyear Tire Company. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and was also a very active Ham radio operator whose call was KC8WMF. He was a member of the Logan and Lancaster Radio clubs, the ARRL and was a past member of the Mingo Blue Lodge and Eastern Star.

Paul D. Dilliard, 96, of Lancaster Ohio, passed away on Saturday Dec. 23, 2006, at Fairfield Medical Center. Paul was a member of First English Lutheran Church, life member of Olivedale Senior Citizens and Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis. He retired from Anchor Hocking after 42 years as a chemist.

Paul was a long time member of the Lancaster and Fairfield Amateur Radio Club. Paul was a regular on the Medicare morning net and enjoyed the contact with the outside world during his later years. Paul was known as a real gentleman by those who had contact with him.

He loved being a Ham. When Gary became a Ham, he was there to help in any way he could. As his health failed him, he had to give up a lot of things he enjoyed doing. Gary and his wife Kay, KC8HJW did a lot for our Thursday night get-togethers. Our silverware, some of our chairs and other things we use are thanks to them. Kay, you are a #1 wife. You did your best and Gary gave you a lot of credit for what he was. Gary wanted to leave this world quietly and with his family and his wishes came true.

Gary, our prayers are peace and no more pain for you. May God grant Kay and your family peace and contentment. The Hanna’s were an asset to the club and we hope Kay continues her association with us. Gary will be greatly missed, he was one of a kind. Kay we are glad we still have you.

Harry C. Vollmer, age 78, of Logan, Ohio, and long time resident of Columbus, died Saturday, October 15, 2005 at O.S.U. Medical Center. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired engineer at Rockwell International. He graduated from Aquinas College High School.

Harry was a member of the Logan and Lancaster Amateur Radio Clubs where he was respected and loved by all. He was an ARRL VEC Test Examiner for many years as well as a trustee of the Logan Club. He was also a member of the OOTC (The Old Old Timers Club – Pioneers of Amateur Wireless). Harry will always be remembered for his generosity. He would provide radios, antennas and other equipment to those who could not afford it or those who needed to borrow for a short period of time. Everyone enjoyed listening to his stories because they were interesting and usually very educational. We enjoyed his humor, his wit, and his smile. 73 Harry, OM and Legend, life in our Clubs will never be the same without you!
