Edward L. Campbell, WD8PGO, 79, of Lancaster, passed away at his residence on
July 17, 2017. He was born in Lancaster on January 28, 1938 to Lloyd "Slim" and Martha Campbell.
Edward lived an amazing life in service to his
community and others which includes 50 years service in the American Red Cross, over 50 years at the
Fairfield County Fair, 50 years at the Civil Air Patrol where he was Lieutenant Colonel, and the Lancaster
and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club for 41 years. He was also a member of the American Legion-Post
11, served on the Fourth of July Committee, was a founding board member of the Ohio Glass
Museum, helped at the Sweet Corn Festival, was a Fairfield County poll worker and community
watch member, served on the Lancaster Festival Committee, was an amateur radio emergency
services coordinator for Fairfield County, and finally worked with the Fairfield County EMA
where he helped with tornado sirens.
In addition to his volunteerism, Edward was a Lancaster policeman, worked for Campbell Electric with his father,
and retired from Anchor Hocking after working as an electrician for 30
years. Edward also enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona, but above all was a loving father and husband.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn; sons, Edward II, Mark, and Richard
Campbell; daughter, Melanie (Bill) Tichenor; grandsons, Charles Carothers, Josh (Mollie) Bristol,
and Christopher, Aaron (Kim), Edward III, and Mark Campbell; granddaughters, Tara (Mike)
Manning, Meghan (Mike) Elliott, and Amanda (Shawn) Neighbor, great grandchildren; and
siblings, Gayle McKenzie, Jean (Jerry) Smutylo, Jodi (Howard) Miller, and Gary (Cathy), Jack,
Steve (Jane), Jim (Kelly), and Martin (Tammy) Campbell; and sister-in-law, Sherry Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nathan Campbell; and brother-in-law,
Gene McKenzie.
A funeral service will take place Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10 AM at the FRANK E. SMITH
FUNERAL HOME. A committal service will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends and
family may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
