Raymond F. "Speed" Shetrone, WA8WFL - Aug. 1, 2012
Raymond F. "Speed"Shetrone of Ft Myers, Florida, formerly of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away
on August 1, 2012. He was born June 11, 1923 to Russell and Forona Shetrone. He was preceded in
death by his parents and infant brother, Robert.
He was co-owner of Shetrone and Son General Store with his father until 1957 when his father retired.
Raymond ran the business until he retired in 1979. He was a member of The Trinity United Church of
Christ in Baltimore where he served on the Consistory several times. He was a member of the Baltimore
Area Development Corporation, Carroll Lions Club, the American Radio Relay League, Basil Fire
Department and was instrumental in the Baltimore Pool Fund Raising Project. He was a licensed
amateur radio operator (WA8WFL), loved camping and was a "real people" He was
also a past member of the Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club.
In 1944 he married Gladys M. Neel. He is survived by the "love of his life", Gladys,
married for 68 years and rarely apart; also survived by son, Frank (Susie) Shetrone of Ft Myers;
grandson,
Bob (Amy) Shetrone of Lancaster, grandaughter, Jenny (Kevin) Kosch of Baltimore, step grandchildren,
Melisa (Steve) Daugherty of Bremen, and Sean (Leah) Smith of Houston, Tx; great grand-children,
Taylor and Sam Shetrone, Alexis, Denver, and Hunter Hosch, Connor and Issac Daugherty, Willem,
Mazie, Emma, and John Riley Smith; a sister, Margery Goodyear of Clayton, Ca.; and sisters-in law,
Marge Price, Logan and Helen Neel, Lancaster.
